“Across the industry, we are seeing that mortgage applications are taking far longer than usual. The amount of time it takes for an offer to be approved for example is taking up to 6 weeks which is far longer than historically.
Applications are taking longer for several reasons:
- There is a high demand for mortgages currently – especially remortgages
- In the main, the lenders workforce are working from home which can be less efficient
- With the cost of living crisis we are seeing a large number of additional underwriting checks
We would therefore advise that you start your mortgage application sooner rather than later. The average mortgage offer lasts for 6 months so there’s no harm getting going early.
We would also suggest you use an experienced broker like Your Mortgage Expert. We will ensure your application is packaged correctly first time which will help ensure fewer back and fores with the lender. We will also ensure the most appropriate lender is recommended based on your circumstances.
